helo There,

At first please excuse that I am writing in English but my Russian is in the stage of reading and understanding only - but will work to improve it.
My question is : is it possible that numeric buttons were used before 1829 especially in 1806 ! I have found 19 regiment button at the battlefield many buttons were plain and only this had a number. Pultusk 1806 / 19th regiment took a part in this battle and was found exactly at their position.

It is absolutely impossible. Up to 1829 in Russian army there were smooth buttons.

I thought so but wasn’t sure - I have found at that battlefield different buttons including one with a crown as is described in the catalog , an artillery button with 2 crossed cannons and a grenade on the top - and finally plain and flat with solid shank grenadiers button small - would it be possible to date them for that period?

there was like buttons in Polish Army (before 1831)too.

Hello again,

This is exactly like the first from the right - I will take some pictures tomorrow and post them for your evaluation. I'm working on an excavation report and have some problems with id's . Found many buttons stamped for example London , treble gilt etc some of them even had a silver or gold gilt intact. I really appreciate your great help.

the last one is a grenadiers button flaming bomb no number reverse is a treble gilt st petersburg the shank is identical as we see in muncheimer from the period of Grand Duchy. nevertheless, 3 buttons above pewter: one artillery regiment 7, imperial eagle can't reed well what is written - too bad, and the last is a. fussiliers button two first have straight shanks and the last one turrid type.
finally the artillery and grenadiers are bronze nice patina - full heavy cast with streight shanks - the buttons have flat horizontal line ! not a elipsoid type as we see in later period.
i have more questions but don't want to abuse your kindness.
